Lindsay Lohan's Lawyer Says Arrest Warrant Is A 'Misunderstanding'

Lindsay Lohan's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, released a statement on Saturday (March 14) about the warrant for the actress' arrest, calling the situation a "misunderstanding."

Gibbons said the hearing "apparently has something to do with Ms. Lohan's probation. We don't know exactly what it's about. The court contacted the defense directly, not us." Unidentified sources reportedly told TMZ.com that the warrant was issued after Lohan failed to comply with the terms of her probation, specifically with regard to an alcohol-education program in which she is enrolled. TMZ also reported that police were called to Lohan's girlfriend Samantha Ronson's house after a disturbance involving a broken window was reported on Saturday, but left without apprehending Lohan. The actress reportedly spent Friday evening with friends at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, and then the group made a late-night visit to the house of Jack Nicholson.

The Beverly Hills Police Department reportedly released the following statement regarding the warrant on Friday evening: "In response to media inquiries, [the] Beverly Hills Police Department is confirming a warrant was in fact issued today [March 13] for the arrest of Lindsay Lohan. The $50,000 warrant issued by the Beverly Hills Superior Court stems from a May 2007 arrest of Miss Lohan for DUI and hit-and-run. The circumstances leading to the issuance of the warrant by the court are not readily available at this time. It is our hope that Miss Lohan will surrender herself so that this matter will be resolved in a timely manner."

In August 2007, Lohan pleaded guilty to two counts of being under the influence of a controlled substance (cocaine), and no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08 percent and one count of reckless driving. She served 84 minutes in jail in November 2007 and was placed on three years probation and ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol education program.

Heath Ledger's Music Videos Come To Light

Two music videos which represent actor Heath Ledger's last directorial work before his death in January 2008 will be released this year.

Modest Mouse plans to release the animated video for "King Rat," a bonus track from the band's 2007 "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank," Billboard has confirmed. The news was first reported by Spin magazine on its website. A video for Grace Woodroofe's cover of David Bowie's "Quicksand" is also set for release this year, along with her Ben Harper-produced debut album, the L.A. Weekly reports.

The Oscar-winning actor directed "King Rat" for Modest Mouse after meeting singer Isaac Brock in Australia. "Heath and I have a mutual friend and when we were in Australia, my fiancé and some of us in the band went out on a boat with him and his family and friends and talked about the idea," Brock told VH1 in 2007 interview. "The idea sort of dropped, but then he just sent me an email saying that he wanted to do it."

The video is animated by director and illustrator Daniel Auber, a member of Ledger's art collective The Massive.

Modest Mouse wrapped up its most recent tour this past weekend in New York at Terminal 5. The band will perform the song "Satellite Skin" on the "Late Show with David Letterman" on Wednesday (March 18).

It must have been a nerve wrecking day last night for Jimmy Fallon as he made his late night talk show host debut. The good news is that he had awesome guests for his first night. Justin Timberlake and Robert De Niro stopped by the show which must have made things a bit easier for Fallon. It seems like Fallon got some good reviews but naturally there was some bad ones as well. A Hollywood Reporter critic said, "He tried too hard, stumbled over his punchlines and struggled to make Robert De Niro seem interesting," who basically said that Fallon had a "typically stiff debut." Then comes the Entertainment Weekly critic who said that, "He did an ultra-ordinary monologue -- one liners about President Obama and the deficit that sounded like material Jay Leno's writers had faxed over from L.A." "He still looked nervous...His eyes locked onto the cue cards more frequently than at us." Ofcourse he was a nervous, it was his first day as a late night talk show host! Let's give the guy the break he needs because chances are he will open up and his show will be great. Did you guys watch his debut? You be our critic, what did you think?

A-Rod Fights Back

Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez is playing hardball against his wife in their divorce case, saying he wants their prenuptial agreement enforced and charges that he cheated on her removed from the record.

In court papers obtained exclusively by the Daily News, A-Rod's side responds point by point to Cynthia's July 7 divorce filing.

The All-Star admits the marriage is "irretrievably broken," but says that because Florida is a no-fault divorce state, he doesn't have to say why and he's not going to.

Cynthia's allegations that he "emotionally abandoned his wife and children" and that the pair broke up because of his "extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct" are "immaterial and impertinent and should be stricken," the papers say.

The documents are expected to be filed today in Miami-Dade Circuit Court in Florida. In her petition to the court, Cynthia asked for the couple's $12 million waterfront estate and "equitable distribution" of all assets acquired during the marriage.

While naming no figure, she petitioned for alimony and child support, including such benefits as life and health insurance and private schools - suggesting she be able to maintain the "high standard of living" A-Rod has provided his family so far.

Rodriguez, whose 10-year, $275 million contract with the Yankees makes him baseball's highest-paid player, says several times in the response he wants the prenup enforced.

"Husband denies any duty to support wife beyond those obligations specifically set out in the parties' prenuptial agreement," the papers say. What those terms are wasn't immediately known, but apparently they don't suit Cynthia.

If he has to go to court to fight her challenge to the prenup and wins, he says he's entitled to recover from his wife any "reasonable attorney's fees and costs" he incurs. A-Rod strikes a conciliatory note when it comes to the children, saying he "has been paying, and will continue to pay ... reasonable and bona fide expenses" for daughters Natasha, 3, and Ella, 3 months.

He even gives Cynthia props as a mom. "Husband admits and acknowledges that wife is a loving and nurturing mother," the papers say. "Husband is confident that he and wife will be able to continue to work with one another to co-parent their children together and that they will be able to agree upon a time-sharing schedule ... without the need for court intervention."

A-Rod notes he's required "to travel extensively from spring training in March through the end of the baseball season in September" - and as any Yankees fan can confirm "more often than not, through the baseball playoffs in October."

"Cynthia and Alex are both very good people and they both have the best interests of their kids at heart," said Rodriguez attorney Alan Kugar. "This is a tough time for both of them and they prefer to handle this matter as privately and amicably as possible."

Lily Allen contributes vocals to a song on the forthcoming new Kaiser Chiefs' album.
Producer Mark Ronson is currently working on both Allen and the Kaiser Chiefs' own records, and had the idea of teaming up Allen's vocals with a Kaiser Chiefs track.

He said: "The other week I was struck with the brainwave, 'Why don't they do a track together?' I had a word with them all and everyone was keen so it happened."

Allen previously sang a cover of Kaiser Chiefs' song 'Oh My God' for Ronson's covers album 'Version'.

Speaking to The Sun Ronson said of the new song: "It sounds awesome. Lily and Ricky Wilson's vocals really gel and the instrumentals are top drawer."

Ronson then that he thought the track will go down a treat at festivals. "We're all hoping it's going to be a big one," he said. "I'd definitely rock out to it at a festival. It's a summer track, even if the weather is shit at the moment."

Bay City, Again, Requesting Madonna, To Give Her A Key To The City

The quest to reach out to Bay City's most famous offspring has begun.

Mayor Charles M. Brunner has drafted a letter inviting Madonna to come home to Bay City and finally accept a key to the city.

City Commissioner Christopher J. Shannon, frontman for a local rock band, is planning a Madonna tribute album in which he hopes to recruit local musicians to cover hits such as "Like a Virgin," "Express Yourself" and "Vogue."

Guy Greve, president of the Bay Arts Council, wants to go as far as commissioning an artist to sculpt a statue of Bay City's Material Girl.

"The local arts council would like to pay homage for her artistic contributions," he said. "I could see a sculpture of her in Bay City. One of Madonna's famous poses could be made into a sculpture."

Brunner said he has e-mailed a letter to Madonna's father, Silvio "Tony" Ciccone, who owns a vineyard in Suttons Bay.

"I sent it to the winery initially, because that was the only e-mail address I had," Brunner said.

"And I did get an e-mail back," he said. "They gave me, I believe, his personal e-mail address, so I sent him an e-mail and a copy of the letter inviting her to Bay City - so hopefully maybe something happens through her father."

Brunner is hopeful his words will atone for the actions of past city officials who have rejected Madonna on multiple occasions - much to the dismay of Madonna's family still living here, including her 96-year-old grandmother.

Madonna, who was born in Bay City in 1958 and spent a considerable portion of her childhood visiting family here, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past month.

That prompted city leaders to reconsider bestowing upon her the infamous key to the city that Mayor Timothy G. Sullivan refused to give her in 1985, when Madonna was considered, by some, too risque for such an honor.

City officials in the late 1980s also refused to accept a professional sculpture of Madonna from an Italian artist, citing a belief that her popularity would fade out in time.

Nearly three decades since her rise to fame, that notion has failed to come true - Madonna remains a worldwide cultural icon.

Just this week, she knocked Elvis Presley from the history books, charting her 37th Top 10 hit with her new single "4 Minutes," a duet with Justin Timberlake. Presley officially was nudged from his standing as the artist with the most Top 10 hits in rock history, according to Billboard.com.

"Far and wide, she wields significant influence in the arts and entertainment world," said Shannon, Bay City's 1st Ward Commissioner. "For Bay City to turn its back on that, it would be a shame."

Perhaps best known locally for calling Bay City a "smelly little town" on national television two decades ago - a reference to a former oil refinery that once polluted the city - Madonna graces the cover of Vanity Fair this month, holding the world in her hands for the magazine's third-annual "Green" issue - her 10th cover for the magazine.

Local leaders say she's a living example to anyone growing up in Bay City with dreams of making it big in the arts world.

Since moving to New York City on a whim in 1978, Madonna has gone on to sell more than 200 million albums worldwide, as well as author children's books and star in and direct films.

Today, she lives with her husband, British film director Guy Ritchie, and three children in London.

Brunner notes that he met Madonna's father in January at the Great Lakes Environmental Film Festival. Tony Ciccone catered the wine for the inaugural event at the State Theatre in Bay City.

Brunner, a former rock band drummer, is hoping he'll make a lasting connection with Madonna and her family, though he was unsuccessful in reaching out to her longtime friend and publicist Lis Rosenberg, who did not return e-mails from Brunner or The Times.

"I'll do what I can," Brunner said. "I've got a one-page letter. I hope she gets an opportunity to read it. We'll just keep working on it."

Martin Ciccone, Madonna's older brother in Beverly Hills, told The Times that Bay City should invite Madonna to town and give her the key for her 50th birthday on Aug. 16.

"I'd say go for it," he said. "I cannot tell you what she would do. I want to say, yeah."

Shannon said that would be great, but as a founding member of Bay City's Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival, he's partial to having the singer slip into town, oh say, in mid-October.

However, the Hollywood stars appear to have won over Malawian officials with their parenting skills. In a confidential report dated 25 March (08) - which has been leaked onto the internet - Probation Officer S. Chisale at the Ministry of Women and Child Development praises the couple for looking after Banda so well.

The report reads: "In the best interest of the child, I do recommend the petitioners (the Ritchies) to your Lordship for your consideration that they be granted an adoption order, having proved that they are suitable parents and satisfied the conditions in the Interim Adoption Order."

Madonna is taking a page out of the Oprah Winfrey Handbook to World Domination by planning to build a girls’ school in Africa.

The Material One is in the process of applying to found the educational establishment in Malawi, where she adopted her son David in 2006.

She tells Elle magazine, “I’m buying land and getting permission to build a girl’s school. The women will play a big role in the future and rebirth of Malawi.”

Oprah co-founded the all-girls Henley-On-Klip Leadership Academy in South Africa in 2006. And Madonna, who currently governs a Malawi based charity project, isn’t the only U.S. star helping students in the African nation - Ricki Lake is helping to build a school founded by her Malawian nanny.
